A good product choice begins with understanding your crop and identifying the problem correctly.
1. Identify the Problem
Inspect the affected plants and look for signs of weeds, insect activity, disease, or nutrient problems. If the cause is unclear, seek advice from a qualified agricultural extension officer.
2. Check the Intended Crop
Read the product label carefully to confirm that the product is intended for your crop and the specific problem you want to manage. Never assume that a product suitable for one crop is safe for another.
3. Compare Product Information
Review the labelled target pest or disease, application instructions, precautions, storage requirements, expiry date, and other relevant details. Compare products based on suitability rather than price alone.
4. Consider Other Control Methods
Depending on the problem, field sanitation, crop rotation, physical removal, biological control, or other non-chemical approaches may help. Integrated pest management combines appropriate methods to manage crop problems.
5. Follow the Label
Use only products labelled for the intended purpose. Follow the exact label directions, required protective measures, restrictions, and any stated pre-harvest or re-entry intervals.
